Thomas McQuilliam (1897 - 1915)
Thomas was murdered on the day of his sisters marriage. Thomas was the son of Margaret McTear, sister of my John McTear.
Thomas McQuilliam was apparently walking home from his sister Jessie Agness's wedding in Whitehaven, Cumberland, in May 1915 with his other sister, Janet, on one arm and a female friend on the other when a rather puritanical passer-by started criticising him for flirting with two women. The two men got into some kind of argument and the passer-by punched Thomas who fell and hit his head, suffering a fatal injury.
The other man was tried for murder but acquitted. He would probably have been found guilty if he'd been charged with manslaughter.
